Sony is trying to make a comeback in the mobile space banking on its Android line-up after launching a handful of mid-range smartphones like the Xperia neo, Xperia U, Xperia P, Xperia Ion and Xperia sola. Now with the launch of the Sony Xperia tipo and Xperia tipo dual, the company is eyeing the entry level Android market, while also aiming to bring dual-SIM devices. In terms of specifications the only thing that sets apart the Xperia tipo from the Xperia tipo dual is that the latter has a dual-SIM slot. Also, Xperia tipo is available in a handful of colour options - black, white, red and blue, while users opting for the dual-SIM version will have to be content with just the black and white. So is Sony Xperia tipo a worthy entry level Android device or does one need to look at other options available in the market? Here's our review. Design/ Hardware At first glance, the Xperia tipo reminds us of a nursery rhyme "I am little teapot (read: tipo), short and stout". This is an apt description for this smartphone. In a world where smartphones are eyeing to get a bigger screen and slimmer profile, Xperia tipo is a bit of an exception. It has a 3.2-inch screen that makes it look a bit smaller than most of the smartphones being launched. Blackberry Parts Not to mention that it is also a bit chubby at 13mm. Thankfully this chubbiness does not reflect in its weight as it feels light at just 99 grams. The smartphone has a full plastic body and its back has a soft, matte coating that feels slightly rubberised allowing for a good grip. The Xperia tipo does not have a great build but still feels sturdy. As already mentioned the smartphone comes with a 3.2-inch display, which is made up of a mineral glass that helps protect the screen from scratches. Just below the screen are the three capacitive Android buttons - back, home and menu. The right panel has the USB/charging port and the left houses the volume rocker (and the SIM swap button for the Xperia tipo dual). Xperia tipo dual supports both GSM SIMs and the SIM swap button helps in changing the default SIM by just one click. The top panel has the power button and a 3.5mm jack and the back has the 3.2 megapixel camera. Overall, it is not a bad looking smartphone and its size makes it easy to pocket. The Xperia tipo runs on a single core 800MHz processor and has 512 MB of RAM. The internal storage available on this smartphone is around 3 GB, which can be expanded up to 32GB through microSD card. There is also a 1,500 mAh battery on-board. Display The Xperia tipo has a 3.2-inch display, which offers a resolution of 480x320 pixels. The resolution and the viewing angles may not seem great, but when you look at the competition (the likes of LG Optimus L3, LG Optimus L3 dual, Samsung Galaxy Y and Samsung Galaxy Y Duos), you'll find that the display is pretty good for the price. Under sun visibility on the Xperia tipo was decent. iPhone 4S Parts The screen used in this smartphone is reflective. The keyboard on the smartphone feels a bit cramped and the speed and the accuracy take a hit because of the same. Camera The Sony Xperia tipo comes with a decent 3.2-megapixel shooter. The picture quality of the images taken in daylight from this smartphone is decent. However, there is no flash in this smartphone so one should not even expect to click picture when the light is low. Another downside is that there is no auto-focus in the camera. The device lacks a dedicated camera button. The camera app is accessible through the lock screen swiping left on the lock screen. Report: Apple pulls the plug on Samsung as battery provider for the Apple iPad

Apple has replaced Samsung as the battery supplier for its Apple iPad tablet and MacBook devices. SDI, the Samsung subsidiary that was providing Apple with batteries, has been replaced by Amperex Technology Limited and Tianjin Lishen Battery, according to a report in the China Business News. But this was not a decision instigated by Apple, according to the report, which claims that Samsung has decided to stop manufacturing the batteries for its rival leaving Apple with no other decision but to replace Samsung. The obviously strained relationship between the two tech titans is making it harder for Samsung to remain an important supplier to Apple. Despite having been denied by Samsung, recently there was speculation that the Korean firm raised its prices for chips it supplies to Apple by 20%. In addition, there have been various rumors about Apple turning to TSMC for its chips instead of Samsung. Apple also has been rumored to be replacing Samsung for displays. Smartphone maker HTC shares hit nearly 4-yr low on grim outlook

Shares of HTC plunged by their daily limit for a second straight session to an almost four-year low on Tuesday, after the Taiwanese smartphone maker's forecast for a slide in quarterly revenue led to a raft of brokerage downgrades. The world's No.5 smartphone maker, once one of the industry's high flyers but badly hit by competition from Apple Inc and Samsung, on Friday forecast as much as a 23 percent fall in third-quarter revenue, much worse than analysts' forecasts. "There are some views that HTC may post a loss in as early as the fourth quarter this year," said Michael On, managing director of Beyond Asset Management. "Its future is not looking good. It can't compete with Samsung. Even when its share price was at its last HTC Touch screen lows the company was at least still making a profit." Shares of HTC had shed 7 percent to T$240.50, their lowest since November 2008, as of 0120 GMT. The broader market was up about 0.2 percent. HTC, formerly a contract maker, had a fairytale ride in 2010 and early 2011, when its shares more than tripled in the 14 months to April 2011, reaching T$1,238.10. The company's sales grew four-fold in 1-1/2 years as consumers snapped up its innovative Samsung Cases phones with their distinctive large clock numerals. But it suffered an equally rapid fall from grace as its phones failed to keep up with Apple's iPhones and Samsung's Galaxy range. Customers must sign a new two-year carrier agreement to get this price, which includes a mail-in Samsung Galaxy Ace Cases rebate if $50. According to industry sources, HTC is working on a new device which will debut this fall – featuring a 5-inch 1794 x 1080 display with a mind Blackberry Bold 9000 Cases boggling pixel density of 418 PPI. To put that inter perspective, this new 5-inch display features a 34% PPI increase over the HTC One X and even a 26% PPI increase over Apple’s fabled Retina Display on the iPhone 4. To make things even better, the rumored device matches up with benchmark scores which were posted to the web a few week ago for the mysterious HTC 6435LVW. Powered by Qualcomm’s MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 SoC, the HTC 6435LVW featured benchmark scores which nearly doubled those of the HTC One X, leaving some to speculate that it could be the first handset to hit the market with the more powerful Adreno 320 GPU. While HTC did promise to cut back on the number of devices it would focus on in 2012, we doubt any of you are going to complain when you first lay eyes on the 5-inch full HD display. Research in Motion is Co-Sponsering this year’s Mobile Pwn2Own contest with AT&T, HP DVLabs, and TippingPoint. The event will be held in Amsterdam on September 19th and 20th at the EUSecWest conference. The concept is to show the security posture of the most common mobile technologies including attacks on mobile web browsers, Near Field Communication (NFC), Short Message Service (SMS), and the cellular baseband. Contestants will be able to choosen from a list of different devices, including the BlackBerry Bold 9930, Samsung Galaxy SIII, the Apple iPhone 4s and the Nokia Lumia 900. All devices will be using the most current OS to make sure the event is fair. A successful attack against these devices must require little or no user interaction and must compromise or exfiltrate useful data from the phone. Any attack that can incur cost upon the owner of the device (such as silently calling long-distance numbers, eavesdropping on conversations, and so forth) is within scope. To avoid interfering with licensed carrier networks, all RF attacks must be completed within the provided RF isolation enclosure. The vulnerabilities utilized in the attack must be an 0-day. Of course no competition is anything without a prize for the winner. If you compromise enough you will win a cash prize, the device itself and 20,000 ZDI points which qualifies them for silver status. For the past week or so I’ve been on a cruise down the Rhine River through Switzerland, France, Germany and (soon) Holland. I’ve noticed a trend: the Apple iPad is the most carried computer on the ship, by a wide margin. I haven’t down an exhaustive survey of my fellow travelers (I’m on vacation after all) but just by keeping my eyes open in the ship’s lounge I’ve seen about a dozen different people with Apple’s tablet. I’ve seen just three mobile phone housing Windows laptops used by passengers in the same period. Our tour guide carries a Samsung Galaxy Tab. I asked around, and people told me they brought their tablets for some of the same reasons I brought my third-generation iPad on this trip: staying in touch with my friends and family through Facebook and email. Both the Apple and the Samsung handsets are dominated by large displays that cover the front of the device. They also have the same basic button and port layout, though the buttons on the iPhone 4S are slightly larger and easier to operate. Display and Keyboard The iPhone 4S is equipped with a 3.5-inch IPS display that has a resolution of 960 x 640 at 326 ppi. It has also been treated with an oleophobic coating designed to repel fingerprints, but you'll still be cleaning off the display pretty frequently. The various Galaxy S II devices have larger displays than the iPhone 4S, measuring 4.3-inches to 4.5-inches, with a resolution of 800 x 480 (WVGA). They look very good, and being larger than the iPhone they offer more immersive entertainment, but they don't have that same high resolution, razor-sharp clarity. The Galaxy S II devices do have an edge when it comes to outdoor viewing, because they are equipped with Super AMOLED Plus screens that are capable of amazing brightness. They almost cause your eyes to bleed at the highest settings. The iPhone 4S is also viewable outside, but isn't able to compete on sheer brightness. When it comes to text entry, you'll be using a virtual keyboard on either of these smartphones, as none of them have mobile phone lcd a physical keyboard. Amazing Alex review - fun, but far from new

Rovio broke out of their Angry Birds shell today with a game called Amazing Alex. Once upon a time it was known as Casey's Contraptions, until Rovio gobbled up the developer, chewed on it for a few months, and spat out this physics title for Android and iOS. Anyone that had played The Incredible Machine back in the day will know the drill. Every level, players are given a simple objective, like knocking over a pile of books, or getting a bowling ball into a basket. Various obstacles are already in place, and players are provided with a limited toolbox of extras to build a Rube Goldberg-style machine and achieve the objective. The main bumper case for samsung I9100 appeal is that all of those objects act as you would expect - scissors close when touched, billiard balls bounce less than tennis balls, balloons float, and so on. The three stars in every level act as secondary objectives, which players can mobile phone lcd earn by knocking objects into them. Gameplay Amazing Alex really is a lot of fun to play. The first couple of levels are easy, but eventually the difficulty ramps up and players find themselves trying all sorts of unexpected combinations to beat a stage. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 banned in the U.S

Apple has struck an important blow in their ongoing litigation with Samsung. They have succeeded in suppressing Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the American market, while the court looks into Apple’s allegations that the Galaxy Tab (amongst other devices) infringes upon several of mobile phone lcd Apple’s patents. Though the ban is not permanent, it is set to remain in place until Samsung can conclusively prove that the Tab 10.1 is an original product, or if they manage to win an appeal. If they don’t, its bad news for Samsung – the trial isn’t even set to begin until the 30th of July, and could easily drag on for several months. This is just the latest imbroglio in Apple’s crusade against Samsung (and, indeed, Android Smartphones as a whole).
