Nokia schedules Lumia event in London on May 14

Nokia is holding an event in London on May 14 where it is expected to unveil one of more of its Windows Phone-based Lumia phones. A copy of the invitation shared by AllThingsD says, "See What's Next" in the background with the words "The Nokia Lumia story continues" dominating the foreground. While there's no official word from the company on what will be launched, based on previous reports the most likely candidate to make an appearance would be the much-rumoured Nokia Catwalk. Nokia Catwalk is the purported successor to the Lumia 920 with an aluminium body, compared to the plastic shell of company's current flagship. That would make the phone around 50 grams lighter than the heavyweight Lumia 920. As far as other specifications are concerned, Catwalk is rumoured to come with a 4.5-inch display and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. Internal storage on the Blackberry Touch screen smartphone will be 16GB and it is likely to pack an 8.7-megapixel camera with LED flash and a 2,000mAh battery. Another phone that has been in the rumours recently is the Nokia EOS, which is said to combine 41-megapixel goodness last seen in Nokia 808 with Windows Phone. iPhone 4S Parts The Nokia Lumia 928 could also make an appearance at the event. Nokia Lumia 928 is rumoured to come with a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 768x1280 pixels resolution, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 8.7-megapixel PureView camera and a 2,000mAh battery. There have also been reports of Nokia launching Windows Phone-based phablets to rival Samsung's Galaxy Note series, but they are unlikely to come to fruition at the event in May.

How to Schedule Ringtone Silence for Weekly or One-Time Events on Your Samsung Galaxy Note 2

We've all had that moment when we enter into a classroom, meeting, or theater and completely forget to put our cell phones on silent. Nothing is worse than receiving a call in the middle of an intense lecture and having everyone stare at you like you're the dumbest, most inconsiderate person on earth.HTC LCD It doesn't matter how cool your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is if it's pumping the newest Justin Bieber track at max volume in a quiet library. But there's now a simple solution for this. SmartSilence: Silent Scheduler, a free Android app that will let you set weekly schedules for when your Note 2. SmartSilence is a very simple, and easy-to-use app. iphone 4 lcd It basically allows you to schedule when your Galaxy Note 2 will ring and not ring. Just like you would schedule a recurring alarm or reminder, you can use SmartSilence to set up times every week or day for when you wish your phone to be silent. Have class from 8 am to 2 pm? You can schedule your phone to be on silent every day for those hours so you never slip up. Have a weekly meeting at work? You can go ahead and block off that time for your phone to automatically set itself to silent. When you click on the "+" symbol to add an event, it requires you to either select "Weekly Schedule" or "One-time Event". If you didn't pay for the pro version, you'll have to remember to stick to just the weekly option. If you select the other option, you'll just be reminded to go buy the pro version. It's only a buck HTC Flex Cable, though, so it's worth it if you have more one-time things than weekly. You can also select an option to automatically have your phone vibrate instead of just a silent ringtone, so that's cool when you need to know you're getting a call, but just don't want that Bieber blaring. SmartSilence will work any Android phone running 2.0 or higher, so you're not just limited to the Note 2. I tried it on our Galaxy S3 too, and it worked like a charm. So, remember to use SmartSilence to save yourself the grief. If your phone is off you won't be tempted to text or answer, or you could end up like this very, very unhappy young lady that had to be removed from a Texas theater. Trust me, it's hilarious.

How to Put Your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in Deep Sleep Mode to Save Battery Life

Newer smartphones are more power hungry than ever before, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has a mighty appetite for amps that only Jenny Craig could possibly curb. On average, your Note 2 (or other Android device) lasts for what, a day, maybe two days before dying. Mine barely lasts 8 hours!iPad Parts This is thanks to all of the apps running in the background of your phone, even when you're not using them, eating through all of your CPU, leaving nothing but crumbs. Even if your Android device is resting, things like Wi-Fi, 3G, Facebook, Instagram, and other apps continue to run, draining your phone slowly, an unnoticeable, until you get that dreaded warning that your device was being gluttonous. If your battery dies fast, Xdeveloper leducbao created a free application called Deep Sleep Battery Saver, which puts your Android device in a deep sleep mode whenever the screen is off. In this mode, features such as Wi-Fi & 3G are turned off, as well as background apps like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram HTC Keypad Board . There's five pre-defined profile (Gentle, Strong, Balance, Aggressive, Slumberer) and you can create custom ones if you upgrade to the pro version. You can have separate settings for weekday and weekends, and you can select how frequently deep sleep happens. You can also set it to wake up at set durations.mobile phone housing Other features include: Wireless & network: Control radio setting during deep sleep Sync: Control sync strategy, sync account, and auto-sync Apps: Select apps that will be stopped during deep sleep Night period: During this period, device is always in deep sleep Screen off delay: A short delay before deep sleep starts Whitelist: Apps are always ignored when deep sleep is on, such as an online music player You can set specific times for the phone to wake up, in order to download emails, sync Facebook status, and receive Instagram notifications.

LG now number 3 smartphone maker by sales; Apple, Samsung lead, HTC drops to fourth

LG Electronics Inc has become the world's No.3 smartphone maker behind Apple Inc and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd for the first time in the $223 billion market, industry data showed, as solid sales of high-end models helped it win customers. LG saw its smartphone market share rise to 3.2 percent in the fourth quarter by sales, propelling it to the third spot for the first time, while rival HTC Corp slid to fourth, data from research firm Strategy Analytics showed. Samsung and Apple took a combined 71.4 percent of the market and the rest is split among firms such  as LG, HTC, Sony Corp and BlackBerry, the data showed. Reflecting growing optimism that LG's smartphone business will recover, LG Electronics shares have gained 54 percent from their 2012 low hit in late July. HTC LCD The shares ended up nearly 2 percent on Thursday at 86,600 won, the highest in more than a year. LG is betting high-end models that boast powerful hardware and software features and a fast 4G connection will help it rebuild its tarnished handset brand quality and increase its market share of the lower-end segment as well. The South Korean company announced on Thursday software upgrades for its flagship Optimus G Pro model that will allow consumers access to features that Samsung touted as major selling points of its upcoming Galaxy S4. The move is its latest attempt to boost appeal to upmarket consumers before rival products hit the market.mobile phone parts  The features LG is adding include motion detecting technology that stops and starts videos depending on whether someone is looking at the screen and snapping pictures. The 5-inch Optimus Pro debuted in South Korea in late February and in Japan this month. It is LG's fastest-selling smartphone with sales hitting 500,000 in the first 40 days of the launch, LG said. In terms of unit shipments, LG remains the seventh-largest with a 4.0 percent share, following Huawei, Lenovo Group Ltd, Sony and ZTE Corp which have market share of between 4 and 5 percent. Analysts expect LG's smartphone shipments will rise by 16 percent to a record 10 million after 8.6 million phones sold in the fourth quarter, a strong performance as the overall market is seen contracting by 6 percent from the strong year-end holiday quarter. HTC reported on Monday a record-low quarterly profit that missed analysts' estimates after it delayed the full launch of its 2013 flagship smartphone model, which will now debut against Samsung's newest Galaxy.

Windows Phone 8 to support full-HD displays by 'end of this year'

Microsoft is planning to bring support for full-HD displays to its mobile OS Windows Phone 8. A report by The Verge indicates that Microsoft will issue an update later this year that will bring support for 1080p resolution to Windows Phone 8. Presently, Windows Phone 8 supports only WVGA, WXGA, and 720p resolutions. The update will reportedly also add support for devices with displays that measure 5-inches and bigger. The update, reportedly called General Distribution Release (GDR3), will also supposedly enable support for quad-core processors, paving the way for Windows Phone 8 devices to compete at par with its Android counterparts, at least as far as pure specifications are concerned. The update, known as a General Distribution Release (GDR3) for Windows Phone, will set the stage for new devices set to debut for the holidays.Samsung cell phone Parts HTC had originally planned to release a "Zenith" flagship device with a 4.7-inch display and quad-core processor, but the company reportedly cancelled its plans as the device would have a lower resolution than its competing Android models. We understand that the GDR3 update will also provide support for new Qualcomm processors, allowing manufacturers to opt for quad-core devices with Windows Phone. iPhone 5 lcd The report notes that the update will be different from the planned Windows Blue update, that aims to bridge the gaps between Microsoft's Windows 8 OS and Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system. Microsoft had originally showcased Windows Phone 8 in June last year, with first devices based on the OS shipping the second half of 2012. Windows Phone 8 added support for dual-core processors, 720p display, microSD and NFC support, Internet Explorer 10, Wallet, Nokia Maps and UI changes like user resizable tiles Sony Touch Screen digitizer. Sorry Apple gets respect in China after tabloid trial

With its rare apology, Apple Inc went from pariah to praiseworthy in the eyes of China's state-controlled media, a lesson for other foreign firms not to underestimate the speed and power of the government press. After coming under near-daily media assault for the past two weeks and facing the threat of penalties from two Chinese government bureaus, Apple apologised to Chinese consumers on Monday for poor communication over its warranty policy and said it will change the terms for some of its iPhones sold in China. mobile phone spare parts Greater China is Apple's second-biggest and fastest-growing market, with sales up almost 40 percent to $6.8 billion in the final quarter of 2012. The Chinese newspapers that threw brickbats at Apple a few days ago have since changed their tune. "The company's apology letter has eased the situation, softening the tense relationship between Apple and the Chinese market. Its reaction is worth respect compared with other American companies," wrote popular tabloid the Global Times, published by Communist Party mouthpiece the People's Daily. The Foreign Ministry praised Apple for "conscientiously" responding to consumers' demands. "We approve of what Apple said," spokesman Hong Lei told a daily news briefing on Tuesday. Only last week, the People's Daily issued a scathing editorial on Apple's return policy saying the popular smartphone maker was filled with "unparalleled arrogance". Apple was first targeted in mid-March by state broadcaster CCTV during its annual consumer day segment. Volkswagen AG , which was also criticised on the same show, plans to recall vehicles to fix a gearbox problem. "That Timothy Cook had to step up and respond from the CEO's chair shows the importance of China and how critical it is as a market not just for Apple but for every multinational company here," said Kent Kedl, Shanghai-based head of Greater China and North Asia for risk consultancy firm Control Risks. Foreign companies who are adept at managing media crises at home find it much tougher to navigate China where state media outlets, pandering to different audiences, often have opaque agendas and intentions. Analysts also said that foreign companies need to remember that the bigger the brand, the bigger a target it will be, especially in China. "What foreign companies need to pay attention to, is that nobody operates in a vacuum, nobody operates only on the good graces of a brand name ... Five to ten years ago a report on CCTV would have rippled a little bit, now it goes viral and has a life of its own," Kedl said. Not Apple's fight to win Apple's acquiescence in this setting, where the world's largest technology company by market value was ironically the David going up against China's Goliath state media machinations, shows its wisdom in not challenging a more powerful enemy. iphone 4 lcd Although popular opinion on the Internet swayed in Apple's favour, against state media and the reported threats of penalties from China's State Administration for Industry and Commerce as well as its quality and inspection bureau, it was not Apple's fight to win, experts said. Other foreign companies targeted by CCTV, such as fast food chain operator Yum Brands Inc , have also apologised and faced scrutiny  from government agencies. Last December CCTV reported that two of Yum's suppliers purchased chickens from farmers who used excessive levels of antibiotics in their animals. The report and subsequent investigations hurt sales at Yum's KFC chain. But Apple's situation is somewhat different because CCTV's claim was not completely new. Last July, a Chinese consumer rights group also slammed Apple for its after-sales policies. That time, however, Apple held its ground. With the apology and warranty change, Apple's mea culpa is significant not just because it comes from a tech firm that rarely apologises, but also because Apple may be realising that in China, it needs to be proactive. "They're out of the woods and into the weeds. Things will rarely be smooth for Apple in China - even if consumers love it there will always be factions in and out of government that are trying to take it down," said Michael Clendenin, managing director of technology consultancy RedTech Advisors.
